I don't know what else to tell you.
There is no question that I have been neglecting this blog in the last week. In fact it’s been an entire week since I posted anything at all.
The truth is that I’ve been incredibly busy. And I think I’ve been in grave denial about it. I always imagine my life as though I have all this free time. When I think about my life compared to, say, a mom with small kids, or a big executive, I think I can’t compete in the busy department. But the truth is, I’m swamped. Don’t get me wrong, I have leisure time. But why on earth would I spend that time typing to the internet about my life? That’s what the workday is for.
Work has been nuts. There were definitely a few weeks around the holidays when things were so slow I found myself wishing for more filing to do. (Nah, that will never be true.) But things have ramped back up exactly as I remember them here at the ol’ Partner Partner Partner & Partner, LLP. The phone rings a lot, there are tons of little tasks to get done day to day, I assist the head partner when his assistant isn’t available (and his assistant on vacation right now), and generally it’s ridiculously hectic. And that’s just the day time. Then the REST of the time happens.
I will say my life feels like it’s moving along at a nice steady hum. Comedy is a full time job. I used to think it was a part time job, but I’m beginning to realize that hour for hour each week, I probably spend more time involved in comedy activities than I spend doing actual work that I get a salary for. Between rehearsals, shows, meetings, emails, schedules, lists, discussions, arguments, blurbs to write, blogs to write (still working on Skidmore blog, Rebe), performances to plug…the list really does go on. And it seems like nebulous stuff, but it fucking adds up. Not a day goes by that there isn’t some blah blah blah you know? BLAH BLAH FUCKING BLAH. But it’s true. It’s a lot. Especially when you’re a lawyer by day like I am. :)
I’m not complaining. But if I go for a few days at a time without posting, that’s probably why.
…back to it.
